Quebracho colorado (Schinopsis balansae and Schinopsis lorentzii), generally known as quebracho, is an evergreen tree found in dense sub-tropical forests in South America, primarily in Argentina and Paraguay. Quebracho is only mature enough for extraction after a minimum of 80 years of growing.

The name is derived from two Spanish words, quebrar and hacha, which together mean 'axebreaker'. In the past, quebracho has been utilised for posts, telegraph poles, and bridges in the area.
